TRIO Upward Bound program is a comprehensive, federally-funded college preparatory program designed to generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to successfully complete high school and pursue postsecondary degrees. The Jefferson Davis Community College TRIO Upward Bound program has been in operation since 1995. Currently, the program is funded to serve 52 students who are potential first-generation college students and are from low-income families. Eligible students must attend one of the five target high schools in a 35-mile radius of JDCC's Brewton campus. The five target high schools are: T. R. Miller High School, W. S. Neal High School, Flomaton High School, Escambia County High School, and Hillcrest High School. Please contact the JDCC TRIO Upward Bound Program for additional information at (251) 809-1564 or (251) 809-1630.

During the school year
During the academic year, TRIO Upward Bound participants meet three times per month at their school for advising, tutoring and special activity sessions with TRIO Upward Bound staff. The sessions may include group communication, skill development exercises, individual educational counseling and advising, tutoring, and career and college workshops. The program also helps students prepare for the ACT and the Alabama High School Graduation Exams. TRIO Upward Bound also provides students with cultural and social activities to help develop a wholesome attitude toward learning and the fulfillment of potential. All participants meet on the Brewton campus for six hours one Saturday per month during the academic year.
